An Expansive Selection of Fish From Around the World

Our Extensive Inventory of Fish

Teeming with marine life, the world’s oceans offer some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet and are home to fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. We strive to reflect that bounty in the fish and invertebrates we offer!

As you continue your travel through the marine sections of the store, you’ll find saltwater fish, corals and other invertebrates displayed up close for your enjoyment. Like our freshwater fish and invertebrates we pride ourselves on having a wide selection of imported and aqua-cultured marines.

For 30 years we have ordered marine animals and unpacked boxes full with bags of fish and invertebrates. Still to this day, we get excited with every new arrival. We have worked with these suppliers (yes, some for 30 years) to develop the best quality and selection . Years of meeting and visiting, “tweaking the standards”, constant and consistent communication, has guaranteed us the BEST of the BEST… for you! Marine Fish

Due to advances in technology and equipment, it has now become easier than ever to set up a saltwater aquarium. It’s important to understand the proper care and personality of each fish species. Depending on their sizes, diets, and behaviors, knowing which ones to keep together in your aquarium can be a challenge. We can help you determine the nutritional needs of your selected species and provide the appropriate food. We have the expertise you need to make informed decisions about choosing fish that will make for a healthy, impressive saltwater aquarium.

Whether you’re a seasoned aquatic enthusiast or you’re new to keeping fish, we’ll be happy to share our knowledge and help you decide on the best options for your aquarium.

Marine Invertebrates

Along with our colorful myriad of saltwater fish, Aquarium Adventure Columbus also carries an impressive assembly of invertebrates (animals without backbones), which include shrimp, snails, urchins, crabs, starfish, anemones, clams and corals. Any of these slow-moving and sessile creatures would make a welcome addition to your saltwater tank.

Many of the invertebrates are scavengers which help keep your aquarium clean of uneaten food and debris, while other invertebrate scavengers work hard at keeping the growth of undesirable algae under control. Then there are the invertebrates that actually filter the water, by taking out of the water column microscopic plankton and debris thereby helping to maintain peak water quality.

Corals

Saltwater reef aquariums are considered by many to be the ultimate in the hobby of keeping fish. No other type of tank can more closely represent a “chunk” of habitat from nature. In addition, the bright vibrant colors of the fish, corals and other inhabitants make a stunning display when kept correctly.

There are many types of corals and the colors span the entire spectrum of the rainbow which is partly why they are so desirable. Basically, corals can be divided into two groups; Soft Corals and Stony Corals. There are many types of soft coral, which include, leathers, mushrooms, zooanthids, star polyps and gorgonians to name a few. Stony corals are broken into two groups: large polyp stony’s (LPS) and small polyp stony’s (SPS).

Corals photosynthesize because they have actual algae cells that live in the coral tissue. This is what helps produce their colors and as one would assume, light plays an important parameter for the maintenance and growth of the coral along with proper nutrition, water quality and chemistry.

Acclimating Your Fish

Introducing your new fish at home requires a few steps for a healthy adaptation to their new environment. Float the bag of fish, still closed and full of air, in the aquarium for 10 minutes. It is helpful to turn off the overhead light on the aquarium, as a bright light can be stressful. After 10 minutes, the bag of fish can be opened and the top of the bag can be rolled down halfway, forming a collar or float ring. Fill the bag full of water from the aquarium (it now contains 1/2 water from your aquarium and 1/2 water from the store).

The collar or float ring should have formed an air pocket, which will allow the bag to float upright to prevent the fish from spilling out into the aquarium while the two waters mix. After 15 minutes, pour half of the water from the bag into the aquarium, refill the bag of fish with aquarium water again and continue to float. After the next 15 minutes, again pour half of the water from the bag into the aquarium, refill the bag of fish with aquarium water and continue to float.

After another 15 minutes, again pour half of the water from the bag into the aquarium, refill the bag of fish with aquarium water, and float for the final 15 minutes. After three 15 minute mixes, the fish can be poured gently into the aquarium. Extremely delicate fish (such as marine animals) should have as many as six to nine 15-minute mixes. Consult with your Aquarium Adventure Columbus associate to determine the right mixes for your selection of fish.

After releasing the fish into the aquarium, do not feed the fish for 24 hours and watch closely for aggressive tank mates that could hinder the new fish from settling into the aquarium.
