Fish Food

Feeding the fish is not only fun but very important in maintaining regular care. In their natural environment, fish spend a majority of their time hunting for and grazing on food. In an aquarium we must help supplement that by providing the right types and amounts of food. Some fish are herbivores (eat plants and algae), some carnivores (eat other fish and animals) and some are omnivores (eat both).

We recommend the healthy, proven foods we sell at Aquarium Adventure Columbus because we use them for our own tanks, too. All of our fish and invertebrates enjoy the high-quality nutrients of the flakes, pellets, frozen, refrigerated and live foods that we provide, and your animals can, too. Come in and explore our unbeatable selection for yourself.  Read our blog for more insider tips and browse our lists of aquariums and products.

The basic components of most prepared dry fish food include: fish meal, squid meal, shrimp meal, earthworms, spirulina algae, vitamins and minerals.

The foods can be offered in various forms, flakes, pellets (hard or soft) and wafers.

Freeze Dried: This variety of food is mostly for carnivorous fish. It is a live animal (generally worms or shrimp) that have been freeze dried, made such that it is easily fed to fish.

Refrigerated & Live Foods

Due to the nature of their predation, certain species of fish will only eat live or “specialized” food. The staff at Aquarium Adventure Columbus can be a great resource for figuring out the best live food diet for a particular fish. Live worms, ghost shrimp, feeder fish, brine shrimp and pods along with refrigerated plankton and roe are on the menu and well-stocked.

Frozen food's biggest perk is the simplicity of ingredients and the flash frozen process which maintains the high quality of the ingredient. Ingredients can include clams, krill, shrimp, plankton, roe, worms and combo blends for specialty feeders. The food should be prepared by partially defrosting before adding it to the aquarium. Additionally, it can be portioned to the owner's liking, which is beneficial for both budget and overall fish health.
